SICA is looking to redesign its banner and logo and wants YOUR help! The banner will be displayed at all SICA events and the logo will be featured on SICA communications, social media pages, and our website. See below for information related to eligibility criteria, content requirements, submission requirements, and more. We are looking forward to seeing your designs!

Participant eligibility
Age: 8 to 24 years of age

Design criteria
Banner:

• Must contain the following text:

  • South India Cultural Association

  • www.sicaottawa.com

• Other optional text:

  • SICA

  • Ottawa

• Depicts elements of South Indian classical music and dance (such as, but not limited to musical instruments, cartoon figures/silhouettes of musicians & dancers, Nataraja, abstract shapes and symbols related to music & dance)

• Blank spot for the logo (logo dimensions below)

• Banner dimensions: 33”(W) x 81”(H)

• Resolution: at least 300 ppi (9900 by 24300 pixels)

• Accepted formats: .jpg, .jpeg, .jfif, .bmp, .png, .gif, .heic, .svg, .pdf, .psd, .ai, .eps, .ait, .ppt, .pptx, .tif, .tiff

Logo:

• Represents at least 1 element of SICA’s mission:

  • Promote interest in the classical arts of South India, including but not limited to: Carnatic music, Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali and Mohiniyattam.

  • Encourage and showcase local talent by organizing cultural events.

  • Bring our members quality programs featuring leading artists from North America and overseas.

  • Grow and maintain relationships with sister cultural organizations within and outside of Ottawa

• Must contain “South India Cultural Association” OR “SICA Ottawa”

• Dimensions/shape:

  • Circle

  • Fits inside a box of 5400 x 5400 pixels

• Accepted formats: .jpg, .jpeg, .jfif, .bmp, .png, .gif, .heic, .svg, .pdf, .psd, .ai, .eps, .ait, .ppt, .pptx, .tif, .tiff

Submissions that contain the following will be rejected:

• Photos or images of any known person (other than well known Carnatic music composers, e.g. Thyagaraja, Shyama Sastri, Muthuswamy Dikshitar, Purandara Dasa, Annamacharya, Bharathiyar, etc)

• Copyrighted images

• Logos of other brands or organizations

• Text other than the required/optional text stated above

Other submission details:

• Digital image (physical drawing or paintings are acceptable, but they must be able to be reproduced as a high quality electronic image by the applicant)

• Applicants may submit a banner, logo, or both

• Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is only permitted to refine designs created by hand. If AI is used, the link to the prompt page and screenshots must be provided.

• Designs must have a professional aesthetic.

• SICA executive committee reserves the right to alter designs as needed to meet desired specifications.

How to submit:

• Via email to mail.sicaottawa@gmail.com with “Submission for Banner/Logo Competition” as the subject line

• In the email, please include:

  • Applicant’s full name

  • Age

  • If AI is used, link to prompt page and screenshot

  • Description of what is depicted in each submission and how it meets the content criteria (max 200 words per submission)

Deadline: January 12, 2025

Prizes:

• Banner: $150 towards any SICA membership category or tickets

• Logo: $150 towards any SICA membership category or tickets
